While their paths and experiences differ greatly, there are some common challenges in the adaptation process: it is learning period as intense as in one s childhood, but without the usual support resources (e.g. social capital) and in a situation where increased stress and uncertainty motivates rather for closure than for opening. People will try different strategies of acculturation mixing assimilation and segregation, also depending on the capacity and habits of the host society to receive newcomers. The popularity of extreme right-wing doctrines in many European countries testifies that host populations also face a challenging learning path.</p> <p>Engaging in art has been shown to facilitate the processes of social inclusion and intercultural collaboration.
